Soundtrack of a Simple Life

Fall is my favorite season - not too warm, not yet too cold. I’ve been trying to savor the weekends before the chill fully sets in. One late evening, I attended a musical concert by high schoolers in our town, and I was in awe of how beautifully they played in chorus. Their effort was evident, and it showed in the way families swayed to the music, smiling as the students sang with such heart.

The setup was simple and lovely: a small tent housed the singers, each with their microphone, while the musicians and band played behind them. Strings of lights adorned the trees and shrubs, casting just enough glow to see the faces of the performers. Families gathered with blankets and foldable chairs, creating an intimate circle filled with great music and finger food. Little children and pet dogs ran freely across the grassy patch, their joy echoing the harmony of the evening.

The evening took me down memory lane - back to the days when we sang in school and college, when our orchestra was simple, almost makeshift. I found myself chatting with other families, and many shared the same sentiment. Back then, the turnout was modest, and we weren’t exactly polished performers. But tonight, watching these children shine, it’s clear how beautifully things have evolved. They have such wonderful opportunities now to explore and refine their talents, supported by a community that truly celebrates them.

Best part - the concert ended with everyone - young and old - singing along to Scooby-Doo: Stage Fright “I Love You” with the band. Fingers snapped, voices joined in, feet danced. It felt so perfect. I love this feeling of being part of a small town where warmth flows easily, and everyone knows each other through their children or grandchildren.

Moments like these remind me that abundance isn’t always about big gestures. It’s about the small, intentional changes we make - adding, removing, adjusting - one step at a time. Just like the trees in autumn, changing color, shedding leaves, preparing quietly for the season ahead. If you’ve read my first blog, you’ll know I’ve made some meaningful shifts over the years that have truly improved my quality of life.

Life is what you make of it.

And sometimes, it’s made of music under the stars!
